The Tour takes the R572 out of Glengarriff, taking in the stunning views of the Sugar Loaf and Caha Mountain range, with its cirque lakes to the North, Bantry Bay and the Sheep’s Head to the South. Visit the village of Adrigole, which is noted for the ‘Mare’s Tail’ the highest waterfall in Ireland and the UK. Continue westwards to the fishing town of Castletownbere and take in the beautiful views of Bere Island and Berehaven Harbour which was the most fortified harbour in Western Europe in 1914. On leaving Castletownbere a visit to the site of Dunboy Castle (O’Sullivan Bere 1600) is a must and then onto the hillside village of Cahermore which is noted for its Black Ball region. The Tour continues to Crows’s Head, overlooking Dursey Island. On leaving Crows’s Head, the tour visits the village of Allihies, which is renowned for its Copper Mines (1812 – 1962). On leaving Allihies, the picturesque villages of Eyeries and Ardgroom are a must, both overlooking Coulagh Bay, before crossing the Cork – Kerry border into the villages of Lauragh and Tuosist en route to Kenmare. (Alternative; take the Healy Pass out of Lauragh to Adrigole.) The Tour concludes with a return trip to accommodation.
