Mizen Head

The Tour takes the N71 westbound from Skibbereen to Kilcoe, which overlooks Kilcoe Castle and the beautiful Roaringwater Bay, with its Hundred Isles. Return to the N71 and visit the village of Ballydehob, the birth parish of Danno O’Mahony (National Wrestling Association (NWA) World Heavyweight Champion 1935). Continues to Schull and visit Mount Gabriel, the centre of Bronze Age (2000AD) copper mining and also the regions of the 19 century copper mines. Take the scenic route to Toormore Altar Wedge Tomb (3000 – 2000 BC) and continues towards the Mizen, visiting Goleen, Crookhaven, Brow Head and Barleycove. Take in the various views of the Fastnet Rock (the teardrop of Ireland, which was been the last sighting of Irish soil for thousands of Irish immigrants en route to the US). The tour then makes its way to the most south-westerly point in Ireland; the Mizen Head, visit the Visitor Centre and take a short cliff walk to take in the spectacular, exhilarating and stunning views.
On leaving the Mizen Head, visit Three Castles Head and Dunlough Bay, take the return route to Durrus, overlooking Dunmanus Bay, looking across to the splendour of the Sheep’s Head. The Tour concludes with a return trip to accommodation.
